flores del mar - flowers from the sea

with this semester's lighter course-load (+ 3 snow days)
i'm able to devote time to exploring more in the studio.

i'm trying to give my unconsciousness voice
approaching the materials without a plan
responding instinctively to the metal, glass, and tools

an echo returned from my childhood
despite being a Midwestern girl now
my roots are connected to coastal life
New England and Florida are great pieces of my childhood

combing sand and surf,
when tides crept back to sea,
i'd investigate their forgotten pools
what wonder existed !
curious creatures, shapes, colors, and textures.

these joyful excursions have matured into my present work
they have been marinating for a few years

i let go
allowing the spontaneous
and less conscious parts of myself work

flores del mar - flowers from the sea
(thank you, Mari! she gave this piece a most fitting name)
i feel reminded of magic
kindled in spirit
overjoyed that my unconscious brought to existence such a pleasant piece
made by me... of copper, enamel, and oxidized silver

what childhood memories would find your work?

Walking Barefoot in the Grass : summer goodness

walking barefoot in the dirt and grass is something i long for
especially when i'm stuck in the city for too long
sometimes the will is so strong when i drive home from campus
i'll pull over to a remote road
open the doors and plop my feet onto the Midwest's floor

i'm not sure exactly what it is
but i feel more connected to myself
the world
and the people i love
so simple really
all it requires is a moderately picked up lawn or field
and your willingness to kick off those shoes
perhaps your sole will get dirty
but not your other one
if yours is like mine
it needs the soil

the tickle of grasslings
sunshine warmth

so thankful summer is here!

what's something you get the urge for in the summer?

+++ CINNAMON +++

perhaps my afternoon coffee had something to do with this?
hunting items and photographs which give me the feeling of a season's turn
what does cinnamon remind you of?

i am zapped into a warm kitchen
my parents' house
early in the morning
when the light is dully reaching in
through the windows

hope you're feeling warm thoughts :)

go out !

hello hello!

it's not too often i have the time on my hands to stroll about
enjoying the sunshine
but today i HAD to make time

morning brought the cool breath of autumn
which the afternoon continues to exhale

my lungs are fresh today
my pedals were pushed faster than usual
carrying my body through the spots of sun and shade

strange how a little piece of nature can go so far
20 minutes outside & i feel revived
*sigh*

hope the day is treating you well
& that you make a little moment for yourself
to experience the wondrous change

Lynsey
