3 years later

this piece has been patiently waiting
for 3 years

yes... i didn't have a clue what to do with it for that long
i coveted it. keeping in my creative spaces
places where i would paint, sketch, or hammer
holding it. turning it in my hands. wondering.

sometimes i personify objects
imagining they have feelings
i used to do this with my toys as a child
feeling guilty for spending more time with one than another

if this piece contained feelings, i think it would feel at home
these pieces of ribbon, metal, and enamel strike a harmony
as if they exist to be with one another

i am eased with its completion
a long time in the making
but well worth the wait !

do you have any projects on standby?
what's keeping you from them?

quiet snow day

Missouri was tucked in last night
i love waking up
dashing to the television
legs tucked under themselves as I wait for the alphabet to pass
ah, the fun part of being a student
SNOW DAYS!

how to use such a day?
art nerd: this lighting is PERFECT for photos
brilliant diffused light scattering the earth
and my windowsill

here's some pieces that have been awaiting the perfect day
to capture their details

i think i may take myself for a walk in the park later
tromp about in the fresh foot of snow
how do you like to spend snow days?

wishing you sweet marshmallows in your hot cocoa,
Lynsey
p.s. earrings are now in shop

letting things come naturally

i've been playing with these earrings (or the idea of them) for a while now.
making little trinkets for me
with no purpose but to observe and collect
but these popped up 3 weeks ago.
they've finally translated into wearables!
in the meantime i'd been debating on selfishly keeping them

and have decided, that i wish for them to find a new happy dwelling.
as such, these little fellows will be listed later this evening.

on a different note: 4 weeks of classes remain this semester
i'm ready for a little rejuvenation in the studio!

xx,
Lynsey

:: edit ::
i'm having a hard time putting these up.
but will do so tonight! promise!

more in store: filling the virtual shelves

good news: these little beauties just hit the shop this evening :)

other news:. i miss my torch.
i'm bringing it back after the weekend.

the torch I use in the university's studio is out-of-commission
it's left me feeling unsettled and unsure of my technique
funny how quick i get to know equipment as a collaborator in the process.

i depend on it being constant and predictable
a flame to companion my work

yes, there are other torches available here.
however, these are far too cumbersome and hot for the precise work i need
i worry about disappointing my buyers

it is a heavy feeling.
i want each person to enjoy their purchase
creations from my mind, heart, and hands

can't wait to travel 200 miles to get that little flame!

renewed creative spirit

i've really been enjoying this partial Spring Break the past week

my creative side feels heard and refreshed
plenty of time in the studio
not too neglectful of my study duties
maybe slightly... but it's spring break for goodness sake

i'm ready for Spring to be here
seeing robins bouncing around.
my goal is to snap a proper photo of a flock of robins
i saw a GIANT flock last year. so strangely wonderful

onward this weekend to see Patrick!
my heart feels warm just thinking of it.

A good weekend to you,
Lynsey

p.s. pop in my shops... there's some new goodies around!

Midnight Oil

hi all!
i have a second to let you know what i'm up to... and am excited to show you my first multiple-block woodcut print!

currently in printmaking class, we're working with carving wood to create these lovely printing blocks. the imagery is always up to the creator, but this assignment asked us to use at least four different overlaying woodblocks & to play with colors. (no black ink allowed)

i might do a little show & tell about the process and what each step looks like later on, but for now, here's the final product. not the best photo, but you get the idea of overlapping color and images to create interesting changes and gradients of color and shape.

although i was in the studio till 4 am... working 10-14 hour days, i'm so happy the midnight oil paid off!

hope you all had a great 4th!
